A.K.I.N MISSION STATEMENT

missionAfrican Kids In Need  (A.K.I.N.)was created to offer educational opportunities at the secondary school level to the former residents of the St. Francis Integrated School in Kenya. A.K.I. N provides school fees and financial assistance related to educational expenses as needed.

A.K.I.N endeavors to advise and mentor the students in our program and guide them toward becoming independent self sustaining young adults.

An International Effort

Students at Nairobi Girls School visited by AKIN staff

Twenty five St. Francis students had sat for K.C.P.E. exams in November 2006,and received the results in December. They were still waiting for school placement when St. Francis was closed. Funds were not available to pay school fees, and other necessary costs. A group of concerned individuals from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia decided to take action to assure that these children would be enrolled in secondary schools or vocational colleges as soon as possible.

Students Gather for 2011 Retreat in Nairobi

group

All fifty-eight currently sponsored AKIN  students gathered in Nairobi on December 16th for the 2011 Student retreat. The three day event was organized for the first time by our partners at ANPPCAN and they did a wonderful job. The student retreats always offer a great opportunity for students to reconnect with one another. Since our youngsters attend schools throughout the country, but are connected through their common history as former residents of the St. Francis Children’s Home , which closed in 2007, these retreats are a chance for our children to share experiences from school as well as their personal lives.
